While the investment is commendable, many Nigerians remain sceptical given the persistent brain drain of doctors seeking better opportunities abroad.
Critics argue that without addressing poor remuneration and working conditions, the money may not translate to better healthcare for ordinary citizens.
The government insists the effort is part of long-term reforms to reduce medical tourism and improve local capacity.
