FG Launches Probe into Viral Night Exam at Unity School, Asaba

The Federal Ministry of Education has launched an official investigation into the shocking video showing students writing a WAEC exam by torchlight at Unity Model School, Asaba, Delta State.

The viral footage captured candidates seated outdoors at night, using mobile phone lights to complete their paper.

In a statement late Saturday, Director of Press Folasade Beriowo condemned the incident as “totally unacceptable,” affirming the ministry’s commitment to ensuring a conducive examination environment.

The ministry is collaborating with the Delta State Government and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to determine how the exam came to be administered under such conditions and to hold responsible parties to account.

Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa’s office emphasized that any deviation from standard examination protocols undermines Nigeria’s academic integrity. Authorities have pledged transparency, promising to publish investigation findings and corrective measures.

The move aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for elevating education standards nationwide and eradicating malpractice that jeopardizes students’ futures.
