The National Examinations Council has released the results of the 2025 External Senior School Certificate Examination, recording a strong overall performance by candidates nationwide. The results were unveiled in Minna, Niger State, 52 days after the conclusion of the examination.
NECO Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, said 96,979 candidates registered for the examination, while 95,160 eventually sat for papers across 16 subjects. According to him, 68,166 candidates, representing 71.63 per cent, obtained at least five credits including English Language and Mathematics, while over 86 per cent achieved five credits regardless of the two core subjects.
He disclosed that over 78 per cent of candidates earned credit passes in English Language, while more than 91 per cent passed Mathematics. However, examination malpractice cases rose sharply, with 9,016 candidates booked for offences, representing a 31.7 per cent increase compared to 2024.
NECO also blacklisted five supervisors and recommended four centres for derecognition over mass malpractice. Wushishi urged states owing over ₦2 billion in registration fees to settle their debts and reaffirmed NECO’s commitment to credible assessment.
