The Federal Government has approved N5.1 billion for the funding of 185 research projects in science, engineering, technology, innovation, humanities and social science, and cross-cutting themes.
The projects were selected from 4,287 concept notes submitted by researchers from various tertiary institutions under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) National Research Fund 2023 Grant Cycle.
The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, conveyed the approval based on the recommendation of the TETFund National Research Fund Screening and Monitoring Committee, which conducted a rigorous screening exercise that started in March 2023.
Some of the approved projects aim to address national challenges such as water quality management, maize production, fruit preservation, electric vehicle development, renewable energy storage, oil and gas industry, wound healing and cancer treatment, digital financial inclusion, equity and inclusion, and post-traumatic stress disorder. The individual grants range from N8 million to over N46 million.
