JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has insisted that the Board is not responsible for the non-mobilisation of some Higher National Diploma graduates for the National Youth Service Corps, stressing that JAMB has no role in HND admissions.
Speaking during a meeting with leaders of the National Association of Polytechnic Students, Oloyede said JAMB’s mandate covers admissions into first-degree, National Diploma and NCE programmes only.
Once a student completes an ND and proceeds to HND, he said, the responsibility lies entirely with the institution offering the higher qualification.
His clarification followed repeated complaints by some HND holders, especially those who completed part-time or irregular ND programmes before moving into full-time HND, and later faced difficulties with NYSC mobilisation.
Oloyede explained that JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System only handles admissions under its statutory scope and warned that any admission conducted outside CAPS remains invalid.
He added that some polytechnics worsen the problem by exceeding approved admission quotas or operating unconventional programmes that NYSC may not recognise.
He also criticised what he called exploitative “Daily Part-Time” arrangements and said several institutions had admitted students illegally, creating discrepancies that later affect mobilisation.
His message was clear: affected graduates should direct their grievances to the relevant institutions, not JAMB.
