The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has declared a two-week strike starting December 2, citing unresolved demands from the federal government.
Key grievances include violations of the Federal Polytechnics Act in appointing rectors and delayed implementation of salary reviews and allowances.
ASUP President, Kpanja Shamnah, announced the decision after the union’s 112th National Executive Council meeting in Abuja.
The union previously issued a 15-day ultimatum for the government to address issues, including the non-release of NEEDS Assessment funds and interference by the National Board for Technical Education in academic matters.
Shamnah highlighted breaches in governance, notably at Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, and other institutions.
He also criticized the government’s failure to finalize a scheme of service for polytechnic staff.
ASUP warns that the warning strike may escalate into an indefinite action if their demands remain unmet.
The union calls on authorities to prioritize education sector reforms, ensuring compliance with laws and fair treatment of academic staff.
