Students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Osun state, Nigeria, have staged a protest demanding a 50% reduction in the increased school fees announced by the institution’s management. The students initially faced a 300% increment in school fees, which was later reduced by 15%.
Dissatisfied with the reduction, they have blocked the entrance to the campus, holding placards with slogans like “Fee must fall” and “Education sector is bleeding.” The student union president, Akinremi Ojo, stated that the protest would continue until their demands are met.
The university’s public relations officer urged peaceful protests and dialogue with authorities.
