TETFund Rolls Out 2026 Intervention, Allocates N6.45bn to Tertiary Institutions

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has unveiled its 2026 intervention programme, approving a total disbursement of ₦6.452 billion to beneficiary tertiary institutions nationwide.

The Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono, announced the allocations in Abuja during a stakeholders’ workshop on the 2026 disbursement guidelines, where allocation letters were formally issued.

Under the intervention, each university will receive ₦2.53bn, polytechnics ₦1.87bn, while colleges of education will get ₦2.06bn.

Echono explained that about 90.75 per cent of the funds would be released as direct disbursements, covering annual and special intervention components.

He said the funds would support infrastructure development, academic programmes, research, innovation, ICT upgrades, security infrastructure and completion of abandoned projects.

TETFund also plans to integrate its TERAS platform into NgREN beginning in 2026 to expand access to global research resources.

Echono warned that institutions with unutilised allocations would not receive fresh funding, stressing that future disbursements would be performance-based.
