The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the killing of two students from the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, who were abducted on May 9. The State Police Commissioner, Bethrand Onuoha, described the incident as “very unfortunate” and assured that security forces are pursuing the kidnappers.
The abductors invaded the university around 9:00 PM, abducting several students. While security agencies, aided by local hunters, rescued 21 students, a few remained in captivity. The victims, identified as James Michael Anajuwe and Musa Hussein, both 100-level students, were reportedly killed at the kidnappers’ hideout in Kwara State.
A Non-Governmental Organization, Education For All (E4A), condemned the killings, calling them a callous act intended to deter education. Malam Nasir Ibrahim, the NGO’s Publicity Secretary, expressed sorrow over the loss and urged the Kogi government to collaborate with Kwara and Ekiti states to apprehend the culprits.
Negotiations for the students’ release were ongoing when the tragic news broke, highlighting the urgent need for coordinated action against the attackers of educational institutions.
