Nigeria’s tertiary Institutions have set UTME benchmark at 140 for universities, 100 for polytechnics and colleges of education
At the 2024 policy meeting in Abuja, tertiary institutions pegged the minimum UTME score for university admissions at 140, and 100 for polytechnics and colleges of education. JAMB Registrar, Prof.
Ishaq Oloyede, clarified that this benchmark, set by individual universities, was not a cut-off mark but the minimum acceptable score. No institution can admit students below these scores.
Exemptions from post-UTME tests include international candidates and those with disabilities. The policy meeting also saw a contentious ban on underage admissions to commence in 2025, leading to protests from stakeholders.
The JAMB Registrar intervened, suggesting future enforcement. The meeting concluded with all stakeholders endorsing the benchmarks for 2024 admissions.
