The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the introduction of question paper variations for the 2025 WASSCE to tackle exam malpractice.
From April 24 to June 20, nearly 2 million candidates across 23,554 schools will take part in the exams — each receiving unique question sets. WAEC’s Nigeria chief, Dr. Amos Dangut, said the move will uphold academic integrity and reduce cheating. “No two students will get the same questions.
This is a major leap in securing our exams,” he said at a Lagos briefing. Dangut also revealed that while NIN is encouraged for registration, it won’t be mandatory initially.
He acknowledged insecurity in some regions but assured safety during exams, citing WAEC’s collaboration with the police and state governments.
Dangut reaffirmed WAEC’s zero-tolerance for cheating. “Anyone found guilty will face stiff penalties,” he said.
He also praised the rising number of female candidates, noting increased gender balance in participation.
