The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, has called on former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to submit himself for probe by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Bello is wanted over alleged corrupt practices during his tenure as governor.
In a statement, Fagbemi emphasized the importance of following the rule of law and cooperating with investigations. He described the attempts to prevent Bello’s arrest as “disquieting” and urged him to “toe the path of decency and civility” by honoring the EFCC’s invitation.
Fagbemi stressed that the EFCC is empowered by law to invite anyone for interrogation and that obstructing their efforts is not the solution. He assured that he stands for the rule of law and will ensure no Nigerian’s rights are trampled upon.
The drama between the EFCC and Bello’s camp has been ongoing, with the incumbent Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo using his immunity to prevent Bello’s arrest on Wednesday.
The AGF’s statement aims to encourage cooperation and resolve the issue through legal means.
