The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has called for concerted efforts to end electricity theft, vandalism of power assets, and other acts of sabotage hindering the growth of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
Speaking at the 2023 Annual Power Correspondents Association of Nigeria workshop in Abuja, Adelabu emphasized the need for the media to join the fight against these menaces.
He highlighted the significance of the 2023 Electricity Act, which has liberalized electricity generation, transmission, and distribution, empowering states, organizations, and individuals to participate in these aspects of the power sector.
Adelabu stressed the importance of advocacy against power theft and vandalism for the sector’s progress. The workshop focused on resolving Nigeria’s power crisis and understanding the implications of the Electricity Act 2023.
