The Federal Government has inaugurated a 10-man Inter-Ministerial Committee to implement the Supreme Court’s July 2024 judgement granting financial autonomy to Local Governments.
The committee, chaired by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Senator George Akume, includes key government officials such as the Ministers of Finance, Justice, and Budget and representatives from the Central Bank of Nigeria and state and local governments.
The committee’s mandate is to ensure that local governments can operate independently and free from state government interference.
