The Federal Government has announced plans to deploy a multi-domain hybrid intelligence shield powered by artificial intelligence to combat terrorism, piracy, and illegal mining.
The system is designed to integrate data from various security agencies and provide real-time intelligence for proactive responses.
Speaking on Thursday, officials said the technology will help track criminal networks and prevent attacks before they occur.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to modernise Nigeria’s security architecture amid persistent threats from bandits, insurgents, and sea pirates.
However, experts have raised concerns about the cost and technical capacity required to implement such a system effectively.
They also warn that without proper oversight, the AI could be misused for surveillance or political repression.
The government has assured that the system will respect citizens’ rights and be deployed transparently. Trials are expected to begin in select regions before a national rollout.
