Civil society organizations are calling on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to publicly disclose its findings in the ongoing investigation of Dr. Betta Edu, the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
Edu was suspended following allegations of misappropriating N585 million in ministry funds.
In a press statement, the Concerned Civil Society Organizations of Nigeria (CCSON) expressed alarm over the presidency’s apparent inaction in Edu’s case, contrasting it with the swift removal of Halima Shehu, National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme.
The group criticized the disparity in handling the two cases, questioning the government’s commitment to fairness and accountability.
CCSON is calling for immediate action from President Tinubu and transparency from the EFCC to restore public trust in the administration’s anti-corruption stance.
The group emphasized that Nigerians deserve clarity regarding the serious allegations surrounding Edu’s tenure.
