The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed over N10 billion worth of counterfeit, expired, and substandard products in a large-scale crackdown.
NAFDAC’s Director-General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, made the announcement in Gombe, explaining that the products were seized across the Northeast geopolitical zone.
The items included fake medicines, expired food products, and substandard cosmetics, all of which posed significant health risks to the public. Adeyeye emphasized NAFDAC’s commitment to safeguarding public health by ridding the market of harmful goods.
She vowed that the agency will continue to strengthen its regulatory framework and enhance market surveillance to prevent the circulation of unsafe products. NAFDAC’s efforts in Gombe follow similar crackdowns in other states, including Sokoto, as part of a broader national initiative to combat counterfeit goods.
The agency also plans to bring violators to justice, signaling a tough stance against those who prioritize profit over public safety.
