The Federal Capital Territory Administration has dismissed rumours of an Ebola outbreak in Abuja, confirming that a suspected patient tested negative for both Ebola Virus Disease and Marburg Virus.
At a press briefing, FCT Health Secretary Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe said the patient, who flew in from Rwanda, triggered alarm due to her travel history and symptoms but was quickly isolated and tested.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention also confirmed the negative results, while further tests are being conducted for other viral hemorrhagic fevers like Lassa and dengue.
Fasawe credited the swift response to an “efficient surveillance system” set up by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
She praised the patient’s decision to seek medical help immediately and the hospital (Nisa Premier) for strictly following infectious disease protocols.
She urged residents to take any fever or unusual bleeding seriously, stressing, “Not every fever is malaria.” She encouraged quick reporting to health facilities to avert risks. “Ebola is not in Abuja. Confirmed, verified, and said with authority,” she assured.
