Lassa Fever Takes Toll in Nigeria: 227 Dead, 1,270 Infected Across 28 States

In 2023, Nigeria recorded 1,270 confirmed cases and 227 deaths from Lassa fever across 28 states, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).
The NCDC has activated the national multisectoral Emergency Operations Centre for Lassa Fever (LF-EOC) in response to the rising cases.

The LF-EOC aims to coordinate response efforts to reduce the spread of the infection.
The director-general of NCDC, Dr Ifedayo Adetifa, emphasized the need for collective responsibility, urging the public and healthcare workers to remain vigilant and highlighting the importance of early detection for increased survival chances.
