The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned consumers about counterfeit Cowbell “Our Milk” 12g sachets in circulation.
The agency said the fake products, reported by Promasidor Nigeria Limited, closely resemble the genuine version but use outdated packaging designs, cloned NAFDAC numbers, and poor-quality sealing.
Unlike the real product, which contains creamy milk, the counterfeit sachets contain suspicious substances.
NAFDAC explained that genuine sachets bear the updated “Our Creamy Goodness” design with laser-printed batch codes in specific areas, while the fake ones carry the old “Our Milk” design with misplaced ink-printed codes.
The agency warned that consuming the fake milk poses serious health risks, including food poisoning, allergic reactions, organ damage, or even death. Children, pregnant women, and the elderly were identified as particularly vulnerable.
NAFDAC said surveillance teams are working to remove the counterfeit milk from markets and urged distributors, retailers, and consumers to buy only from trusted outlets. Reports of suspicious products should be made to NAFDAC offices or its e-reporting platform.
