The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed counterfeit and expired products worth N15 billion in Ibadan.
The operation took place Thursday at the Moniya dumpsite, where 80 containers of pharmaceuticals and consumer goods were incinerated.
Among the items were banned drugs including Analgin, Tramadol, Codeine cough syrups, Oxytocin, and unregistered vaccines.
NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said the exercise underscored the agency’s resolve to protect public health.
“We are committed to ensuring that every product in circulation—from medicines to packaged water—meets safety standards,” she said.
Adeyeye explained that the items destroyed had been seized during enforcement raids, reflecting the dangerous scale of illegal drug circulation in Nigeria. She added that stringent licensing measures and surveillance remain central to the agency’s strategy.
The DG reaffirmed NAFDAC’s readiness to work with security agencies to block harmful products from entering the market. The destruction, she said, sends a strong warning to counterfeiters profiting at the expense of Nigerians’ lives.
