The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued an urgent recall of a specific batch of Deekins Amoxicillin 500mg capsules, manufactured by Eco-med Pharma Ltd and distributed by DevineKings Pharmaceutical Ltd.
The affected batch, identified as lot number 4C639001, was linked to reports of serious adverse drug reactions in patients.
In a statement shared via its official X handle, NAFDAC revealed that three patients experienced severe reactions after taking the drug.
Healthcare professionals and consumers are urged to discontinue the use of this batch immediately and report any incidents to NAFDAC offices or through its toll-free number and email.
Amoxicillin is commonly used to treat bacterial infections such as sinusitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia. However, NAFDAC emphasized the importance of ensuring public safety by recalling potentially harmful pharmaceutical products.
The agency reassured Nigerians of its commitment to regulating and monitoring drug safety, urging vigilance against counterfeit or substandard products.
This recall highlights the critical role of quality assurance in protecting public health and maintaining trust in healthcare systems.
