NAFDAC has uncovered a major counterfeit medicine operation in Lagos, seizing over 10 million doses of fake and banned drugs hidden in warehouse-like structures.
The seizure included life-saving injections for malaria, antibiotics, sachet drugs, and banned medicines such as Analgin.
Speaking in Lagos, Mr. Martins Iluyomade, NAFDAC’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, described the operation as a sophisticated international syndicate, noting that the anti-malarial injections alone could have endangered more than three million lives. The street value of seized products exceeds ₦3 billion.
He warned Nigerians to purchase medicines only from registered pharmacies, verify authentication codes, and report suspicious products, stressing that fake drugs threaten public health.
Four arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend the masterminds behind the operation.
