The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) on Tuesday condemned an upcoming London press conference by four Tinubu‑administration ministers as an “extravagant jamboree” that insults Nigerians grappling with poverty, insecurity, and inflation.
In a statement, National Coordinator Emmanuel Onwubiko criticised the planned showcase of President Tinubu’s “legacy projects” abroad as a propaganda stunt divorced from citizens’ daily hardships.
Ministers Nyesom Wike (FCT), Dave Umahi (Works), Olubunmi Tunji‑Ojo (Interior), and others are scheduled to brief the international media in London under the aegis of the Midterm Legacy Projects Review Committee.
HURIWA slammed the trip as “disgraceful and inexcusable,” urging its cancellation and a redirection of funds to address pressing domestic challenges.
Onwubiko challenged the transparency of the expenditure, demanding to know whether the National Assembly approved the costs and whether Nigerians were consulted.
He rejected APC UK Chapter Chairman Tunde Doherty’s claim that the conference would “present the right narrative,” insisting that no overseas PR can mask rampant hunger, joblessness, and insecurity at home.
