A coalition of Igbo groups has urged the federal government to defend the rights of Nigerians amidst rising ethnic tensions and hate campaigns against the Igbo community.
The groups, including Nzuko Umunna and Aka Ikenga, condemned recent calls for ethnic violence and hate speech directed at the Igbo people.
They demanded immediate action from security agencies to arrest and prosecute those behind these hate campaigns and warned that any inaction by state governments would be seen as tacit support for these threats.
The communique emphasized the need for the federal government to uphold constitutional rights and international human rights standards, and called for greater protection of all Nigerian citizens against ethnic discrimination and violence.
