The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has distanced itself from a purported Biafra declaration in Finland, labeling it a fraudulent scheme orchestrated by an unknown group.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB made it clear that no declaration of Biafra can be made beyond the original one issued by its late leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, in 1967.
IPOB emphasized that their goal is to restore the sovereignty of Biafra through a UN-supervised referendum, not to engage in misguided declarations.
The group condemned the actions of those behind the Finland event, claiming that their motives were to destabilize the South East and divert attention from the genuine Biafra struggle.
IPOB reiterated that the so-called Biafra declaration in Finland was a distraction and that the group is committed to peaceful self-determination.
They further accused the individuals involved of trying to undermine the efforts of IPOB’s leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and other genuine Biafra supporters.
IPOB warned that the perpetrators would face consequences for their actions, as they believe that Biafra’s sovereignty was established in 1967 and cannot be declared anew by anyone.
