The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has suspended its nationwide strike, which began on Monday, following a crucial meeting with the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
In a communiqué issued on Tuesday, the union said the decision followed prolonged negotiations involving the CJN, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). JUSUN agreed to a one-month grace period to allow the government to meet its demands.
As part of the resolution, the Federal Government is expected to release the necessary funds to the judiciary within the month. The agreement also mandates the immediate implementation of JUSUN’s demands once the funds are disbursed.
The demands include the full implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage and arrears, a 25 to 35 percent salary increase, and payment of a five-month wage award.
Citing the CJN’s firm commitment, JUSUN directed all its members nationwide to resume duties starting Wednesday.
