The Catholic Bishop of Kafanchan Diocese, Most Rev. Julius Yakubu Kundi, has lamented the failure of security agencies to protect residents of Naridon village in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where gunmen recently killed 30 people.
Speaking at a mass burial on Saturday, the bishop said 27 of the victims were laid to rest, with three others yet to be accounted for.
He described the attack as a devastating blow to the community and questioned why the government has not done more to stop recurring violence in Southern Kaduna.
“We failed to protect them,” Kundi said, adding that the Church and grieving families have been left to bear the burden of a tragedy that should have been prevented.
The massacre has reignited calls for stronger military presence in the area, with residents living in fear of another assault. The state government has yet to issue a detailed response, but security officials say investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, community leaders are demanding justice for the victims and urgent action to end the cycle of bloodshed that continues to plague the region.
