Kaduna Gov Uba Sani Extends Birthday Wishes to el-Rufai Amid Rift

In an unexpected display of goodwill amid political tensions, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani extended heartfelt birthday greetings to his predecessor, Nasir el-Rufai, on the occasion of his 65th birthday.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Gov Sani congratulated el-Rufai, referring to him as a “dear brother, friend, and predecessor,” and prayed for continued guidance, protection, and strength for the former governor.

This conciliatory gesture comes despite a well-documented fallout between the two, which began after el-Rufai supported Sani’s 2023 governorship bid.

The political feud escalated when Gov Sani publicly accused el-Rufai’s administration of leaving behind substantial debts and liabilities that have hindered effective governance, prompting an investigation by the Kaduna State House of Assembly into alleged misappropriation of public funds during el-Rufai’s tenure.

In retaliation, el-Rufai has criticized Sani’s leadership, accusing him of sycophancy towards President Bola Tinubu.

Despite these disputes, Sani’s message of congratulations marks a rare moment of personal reconciliation, suggesting that behind the political disagreements there remains a mutual recognition of shared history and responsibilities in serving Kaduna State.
