The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has openly called on Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo to resign if he can no longer align politically with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Speaking during a live radio programme, Waiya reacted to reports that the deputy governor remains loyal to the Kwankwasiyya political movement despite the governor’s recent political realignment.
He argued that divergence at the highest level of government could undermine trust and effective governance, particularly as the deputy governor also oversees higher education.
According to Waiya, governance requires cohesion and shared ideology, warning that suspicion within the executive council could stall development.
While acknowledging that political ambition is legitimate, he said stepping aside would be the most honourable option if personal interests conflict with government direction. He stressed that the administration remains committed to its “Kano First” agenda.
