The Kano State Police Command has banned all Durbar activities during the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, citing unresolved security threats. This announcement contradicts an earlier circular by the Kano Emirate Council inviting district heads and traditional horse riders for the annual Sallah Durbar scheduled for June 4 and 5, 2025.
In a statement released on Sunday, the police, alongside other security agencies, reaffirmed the ban initially placed during Eid-el-Fitr, saying credible intelligence indicates miscreants plan to hijack the celebration to cause unrest.
Restrictions include a ban on horse and animal riding, reckless driving, possession of weapons, and carrying suspicious items. The public has been urged to cooperate and observe the festive season peacefully.
Parents and guardians were also warned to prevent their children from being lured into disruptive acts. The police emphasized that security agencies would enforce all measures to ensure public safety.
The Emirate Council had earlier made logistical arrangements for the event, but the conflicting directives now cast doubt over whether the traditional festivities will proceed.
