Kebbi Fixes February 11–14 for Argungu Fishing Festival

The Kebbi State Government has announced February 11 to 14 for the 2026 Argungu International Fishing Festival, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated cultural events.

The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Mera, made the announcement after a joint meeting of the state festival committee and the Emirate Local Organising Committee.

He explained that the festival, which originated as a peace initiative between historic kingdoms, later gained international recognition from UNESCO due to its cultural significance.

According to the Emir, the festival has also played a unifying role in Nigeria’s post–civil war history, bringing together fishing communities nationwide.

Deputy Governor Senator Umar Tafida, who chairs the festival committee, said preparations were already underway, with subcommittees handling logistics, security, hospitality and awards.

He assured that the state government is committed to hosting a successful festival that will attract global visitors and showcase Kebbi’s rich heritage.
