Kidnapped Sokoto Monarch Pleads for Ransom Payment

Alhaji Muhammad Bawa, the Sarkin Kudun Gatawa of Sokoto State, has appealed for ransom payment to secure his release from kidnappers.

In a video released after 23 days in captivity, the visibly distressed monarch urged the Sokoto State Government, Sultanate Council, and his family to meet the bandits’ demands before their deadline.

Bawa, shown chained and bloodstained, emphasized his 74 years of service, including 45 years in government roles. He revealed that at least 86 victims are currently held by the bandits.

The monarch’s family expressed shock and frustration, stating they had informed authorities but received little response. They continue negotiating with the kidnappers using available resources, but the bandits insist on government intervention for the ruler’s release.
