The Kogi State Government is set to recruit 1,050 hunters to strengthen security measures across the state. This follows the State House Assembly’s approval on Wednesday of the government’s request to recruit 50 hunters in each of the state’s 21 local government areas.
The commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Salami Ozigi-Deedat, had sent a letter to the house citing a shortage of security personnel and the need to curb crime and criminality as reasons for the proposed recruitment.
During the plenary session, the assembly speaker reminded members of their previous resolve to enlist hunters given the security challenges faced by the state. He stated that the government’s request was a step in the right direction, leading to the legislators unanimously approving the recruitment through a voice vote.
