Organized Labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), has declared an indefinite nationwide strike starting Monday, June 3rd.
The strike is in response to the federal government’s failure to finalize negotiations on a new national minimum wage and to reverse the recent hike in electricity tariffs.
NLC President Joe Ajaero and TUC President Festus Osifo announced the decision, expressing regret for the inconvenience it may cause Nigerians.
They emphasized their commitment to achieving their goals despite the government’s refusal to address their May 1 ultimatum.
The proposed new minimum wage is N615,000, reflecting Labour’s demands for improved living conditions.
