The Lagos State Government has announced plans to demolish about 80 structures obstructing the right of way of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, confirmed the move after a fresh round of inspections along the project corridor.
He explained that most of the marked buildings had encroached on the designated alignment, adding that the demolition was necessary to ensure smooth progress.
According to him, the affected property owners had been formally notified and compensation processes were ongoing in line with state policy. “Government cannot fold its arms while critical infrastructure is being disrupted.
This project is of national importance,” he said.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, a flagship project of the federal government, is expected to boost connectivity, tourism, and commerce across nine coastal states.
Olumide assured residents that the state would manage the exercise responsibly and urged cooperation from all stakeholders. He added that more monitoring teams had been deployed to prevent new encroachments.
