Macron Pledges French Support as Tinubu Battles Insecurity

French President Emmanuel Macron has reaffirmed France’s solidarity with Nigeria and expressed readiness to deepen security cooperation as the country confronts terrorism and other security threats.

In a post on his official X handle after a conversation with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Macron said France stands with Nigeria, particularly in addressing terrorist activities in the northern region.

“I conveyed France’s solidarity in the face of the various security challenges, particularly the terrorist threat in the North,” he wrote.

Macron disclosed that the enhanced cooperation was at President Tinubu’s request and would include increased support for Nigerian authorities and communities affected by violence.

“At his request, we will strengthen our partnership with the authorities and our support for the affected populations,” Macron added.

He also called on the international community to intensify its involvement, stressing that the crisis requires collective global action.

“No one can remain a spectator,” the French leader said.

Nigeria continues to battle terrorism, banditry, and violent extremism across several regions, with security analysts emphasizing the importance of intelligence-sharing, military cooperation and humanitarian assistance from international partners.

France’s renewed commitment underscores growing diplomatic efforts to stabilise the region and address the root causes of insecurity.
