MURIC Alleges Continued Threat To Sultan’s Authority In Sokoto

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has raised fresh concerns about alleged attempts by the Sokoto State government to undermine the authority of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III.

MURIC’s Executive Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, criticized the proposed Sokoto Emirate Council Amendment Bill, which would require government approval for the Sultan’s appointments.

MURIC condemned this move as an attempt to weaken the Sultanate’s influence and urged the state government to ensure transparency and fairness in its dealings with traditional rulers.

The organization remains skeptical of official denials and calls for greater respect for the Sultan’s traditional role.
