Muslim leaders in Nigeria have urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to steer clear of the country following his claims to join US President Donald Trump in combating terrorism targeting Christians in Nigeria.
The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) criticised Netanyahu’s statement, calling it “ironic” given his alleged role in the Gaza conflict.
Executive Secretary Professor Wole Abbas said the Israeli leader lacked moral authority to lecture Nigeria on terrorism while facing accusations of war crimes.
Abbas warned that foreign intervention under the guise of protecting Christians could destabilise Nigeria, citing the US military’s recent capture of Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro as a cautionary example. He condemned the “false narrative” of Christian genocide, accusing proponents of risking the country’s sovereignty for foreign interests.
MUSWEN called on Nigerians to reject divisive narratives and protect the nation’s resources, stressing that external intervention could have devastating consequences for both Christians and Muslims alike.
