The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated illegal drugs worth approximately N50 million during a targeted raid on drug hawkers operating in the Apapa area and its environs.
The operation, conducted by NAFDAC’s Investigation & Enforcement Directorate, aimed to curb the distribution and sale of unauthorized pharmaceuticals.
Numerous hawkers were apprehended, and a wide range of illicit drugs, including aphrodisiacs, narcotic substances, antibiotics, and over-the-counter medications, were seized.
The agency reiterated its commitment to combating drug-related crimes and ensuring public health and safety. The individuals arrested will face prosecution, and the confiscated drugs will be destroyed in accordance with regulatory protocols.
NAFDAC’s enforcement efforts underscore its dedication to safeguarding consumers from the harmful effects of counterfeit and substandard drugs, reinforcing its mandate to regulate the manufacture, distribution, and sale of food, drugs, cosmetics, and medical devices.
