The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has implored President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly leadership to step in and resolve the escalating dispute between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Speaking from Abeokuta on Saturday, NANS National Vice President Akinbodunse Sileola Felicia warned that if the conflict—centered on Natasha’s sexual harassment allegations against Akpabio—remains unresolved, it could lead to national embarrassment on the international stage.
Felicia emphasized that the National Assembly, as a key organ of government, must be upheld as a model of transparency and integrity, free from internal strife. She urged both parties to de-escalate tensions and allow for an objective investigation into the allegations.
“If these issues are not properly managed, it will cast a shadow over our democratic institutions,” she warned. NANS also called for equal treatment of all senators, noting that disruptions in the chamber harm the nation’s reputation.
The student body pledged to monitor the situation closely and warned that if the dispute is not resolved amicably, they are prepared to mobilize and advocate for reform at the National Assembly.
