Nigeria’s national power grid collapsed again on Wednesday, marking the 12th time in 2024 that the country has experienced a major grid failure.
The collapse occurred at approximately 2:09 pm, according to a tweet from the National Grid’s official handle, leaving large parts of the nation in darkness.
This latest outage adds to a series of grid failures that have plagued the power sector throughout the year.
In October alone, the grid collapsed three times within a single week, sparking widespread public outcry and criticism of the government’s handling of electricity infrastructure.
Efforts to restore power are reportedly underway, but there has been no official timeline for full recovery. The recurring outages have severely impacted businesses and households, with many calling for urgent reforms in the sector.
Energy experts attribute the frequent collapses to outdated infrastructure, insufficient investment, and poor management of the transmission system.
