Niger Communities on High Alert for Potential Flooding

The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) has issued a warning to communities along the Niger and Kaduna rivers in Niger State about possible flooding.

Engr. John Gbadegesin of NIHSA highlighted the risk during a flood awareness event at the Shiroro Hydroelectric Power Station in Minna.

Although the exact scale of potential flooding is not yet clear, NIHSA promises ongoing updates. Local farmers, who have already suffered significant losses this year due to floods, are urging the federal government for immediate assistance.

In response, Engr. Olubunmi Peters from North South Power advised farmers to use flood-resistant seed varieties to mitigate damage.
