Nigeria’s government has officially closed all land borders linking with Niger Republic in response to the recent coup d’état in Niger.
The Acting Controller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale, announced the decision, stating it was to comply with ECOWAS’ directive to suspend cargo movement until further notice.
The closure aims to ensure peace and stability between the two countries and includes sensitizing border communities.
ECOWAS also enforced a no-flight zone over Niger Republic and imposed sanctions, suspending trade, diplomacy, and financial services to the country, to address the escalating tension caused by the military coup.
