The Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE) has raised its voice in strong condemnation of the recent acts of violence and insecurity plaguing the nation, with a particular focus on the South-East region.
While commending the efforts of South-East governors in addressing these challenges, the NGE also praised Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri for his dedication to infrastructure development and enhanced security within his state.
Following a standing committee meeting in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, the NGE issued a compelling statement. In it, the guild emphasized that the primary responsibility of governments at all levels is the protection of citizens’ lives and property. The NGE pointed out that the ongoing security crisis in some states represents a stark failure of this sacred duty.
The guild spotlighted the profound impact of this insecurity, which has led to the tragic loss of numerous innocent lives and severe disruptions to social and economic activities across the nation. The NGE expressed optimism that the forthcoming security summit, initiated by South-East governors and slated for Owerri, Imo State, will grapple with these pressing issues.
