Nigeria Immigration Service Issues Over 2 Million Passports in 2023

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) disclosed that it has issued a staggering 2,141,300 passports in 2023, representing a significant increase compared to previous years.

Controller-General Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju attributed this surge to the “JAPA syndrome” and highlighted the game-changing impact of the recently implemented automation of the passport process.

Since its launch last month, the online application system has processed over 100,000 applications, with more than 80% completed smoothly. This reform aims to alleviate pressure on NIS facilities nationwide and enhance service delivery.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, affirmed the government’s commitment to improving services for Nigerians at home and abroad.

Chairman/CEO of NIDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, lauded the Minister and CGI for their achievements and organized a virtual lecture to enlighten Nigerians in the Diaspora about the automated passport process.
