The United States has delivered undisclosed military supplies to Nigeria, reinforcing ongoing security cooperation between both countries.
The delivery was confirmed by US Africa Command (AFRICOM) in a statement posted online, which said the equipment was handed over in Abuja to support Nigeria’s internal security operations. Details of the weapons or logistics involved were not disclosed.
The development comes against the backdrop of heightened military collaboration, following US airstrikes in Sokoto State on Christmas night, which targeted Islamic State–linked militants allegedly working with the Lakurawa jihadist group and local bandit networks.
The strikes followed diplomatic tensions after former US President Donald Trump described violence in Nigeria as genocide, a claim firmly rejected by Nigerian authorities.
Despite the disagreement, security cooperation between both nations appears to be deepening, with Washington reaffirming its commitment to assisting Nigeria in tackling terrorism, insurgency and transnational criminal networks.
