The Nigerian Army has acknowledged responsibility for the accidental bombing of villagers during a Maulud Nabiy celebration in Tudun Biriin, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The army claimed that the airstrikes were inadvertent and that their target was terrorists. The incident, which occurred on Sunday night, resulted in the death of about 30 residents.
Samuel Aruwan, the Overseeing Commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna State, released a statement indicating that the army, during a meeting with the Deputy Governor and other officials, explained the circumstances leading to the unintended attack.
The General Officer Commanding One Division Nigerian Army, Major VU Okoro, clarified that the military was on a routine mission against terrorists but inadvertently affected members of the community.
The deputy governor conveyed condolences to the affected families, and search-and-rescue efforts were ongoing at the time of the update.
