Nigeria’s Original Anthem Set for a Comeback

The Senate has passed a bill to revive Nigeria’s first national anthem, adopted at independence in 1960.

The bill, presented by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, aimed to restore the original anthem, which was played until 1978.
Bamidele argued that the anthem played a crucial role in shaping Nigeria’s national identity and unity.

The bill has been referred to the Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs for further review and will report back to the Senate for final consideration.
If passed, Nigeria could soon return to its original national anthem.
