Nigeria’s Unemployment Rate Edges Up to 4.2% in Q2 – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported that Nigeria’s unemployment rate increased to 4.2% in the second quarter of 2023, according to the bureau’s revised methodology.

This figure represents a marginal rise of 0.1% from the 4.1% recorded in Q1 2023. The NBS defines employed persons as individuals who have worked for at least one hour in the last seven days.

The report also highlighted that 80.4% of Nigeria’s labor force in the working-age population participated in the survey. Unemployment rates among men and women were 3.5% and 5.9%, respectively.
